Muslims as Neighbours: Challenges and Possibilities for Christians Today
The current discourse about the place of Islam in Western societies like the Netherlands gives proof of a lot of fear and unfamiliarity or even ignorance. During this symposium, we look for fruitful ways of dealing with the new reality of the public presence of Islam. How can churches value the fact that Islam and Christianity are ‘neighbours’ in many ways: religiously, socially, politically? What are the main challenges facing Christians today when it comes to their relations with Muslims? What are some best practices, and what is still lacking? Speakers from various backgrounds will reflect on these questions.
Professor Christine Schirrmacher (University of Bonn) will deliver the main lecture, which is 2020’s Herman Bavinck Lecture. This lecture is free of charge and open to all. Registration is required.
After dinner, the symposium continues with a number of other speakers. The fee for dinner and evening program is €99,-
